Markha Valley Trek - Aug 2024

Markha valley is an absolutely stunning trek in the cold desert of Ladakh. The treks offers you an amazing experience of walking in pristine nature, crossing rivers and log bridges, crossing high passes, rocky canyons, amazing views of Kangyatse and other peaks whilst giving you instagrammable content every minute! Homestay trek 

Per person Cost would be INR 35,750/-. Cost inclusions below 

• Taxi as mentioned from Leh to Skiu, Chokdo-Hemis-Leh 

• Well experienced professional guide for the trek 

• Porters on the trek to carry emergency oxygen cylinders 

• Homestays/ fixed camps on trek for 5 nights. With all meals 

• Trekking permit and other permits, environmental fees etc 

• Emergency oxygen cylinder, basic first aid kit will be with guide on the trek 

Camping trek 

Per person Cost - INR 60,000/-. Cost inclusions below 

• Taxi as mentioned from Leh to Skiu, Chokdo-Hemis-Leh 

• Well experienced professional guide for the trek 

• Twin sharing tents with mattress, sleeping bags, kitchen, dining, toilet tents 

• All food, utensils, cooking equipment • Cooks, helpers for pitching tents and for cooking 

• Ponies for carrying all the equipment

 • Trekking permit and other permits, environmental fees etc

 • Emergency oxygen cylinder, basic first aid kit will be with guide on the trek 

Cost Exclusions 

• Any flights to and from Leh 

• Accommodation and food in Leh

 • Tips to guide, drivers, hosts etc 

• Any snacks, chocolates, beverages on the trek 

• Trekking gear such as trek shoes, walking poles, warm clothes to be comfortable at about -5 degrees 

• Medical insurance, med evac, emergency evacuations and other unforeseen circumstances beyond normal control

Day 1, Leh (3400meters)

Arrive Leh, rest up, post Lunch Acclimatization walk up to Shanti Stupa

Walking time - 1-2 hours. Overnight at Leh

Day 2, Leh (3400meters)

Trip to Khardungla, spend an hour walking around Kahrdungla, visit Khardungla Gompa

Walking time - 1-2 hours.  Overnight at  Leh

Day 3, Skiu (3380meters)

Leh to Skiu

• Drive from Leh to Skiu (approximately 3-4 hours)

• Start the trek from Skiu towards Markha Valley

• Trek through the picturesque landscape, passing small streams and villages

• Overnight camping in Skiu

• Walking time 3-4 hours

Day 4, Markha (3840meters)

Skiu to Markha

• Trek from Skiu to Markha (approximately 19 km, 7-8 hours)

• Pass through lush green valleys and barren landscapes

• Cross the Markha River multiple times on wooden bridges

• Reach Markha village, known for its scenic beauty and ancient monastery

• Overnight camping in Markha 

• Walking time 7-8 hours

Day 5, Thachngtse (4100meters)

Markha to Thachungtse

• Trek from Markha to Thachungtse (approximately 13 km, 5-6 hours)

• Ascend gradually through rocky terrain and high mountain pastures.

• Enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks and valleys

• Reach Thachungtse, a beautiful camping site surrounded by towering mountains

• Overnight camping in Thachungtse

• Walking time 5-6 hours

Day 6, Nimaling (4800meters)

Thachungtse to Nimaling

• Trek from Thachungtse to Nimaling (approximately 5 km, 3-4 hours)

• Ascend further towards the Nimaling plateau

• Reach the vast open meadows of Nimaling, surrounded by snow-capped peaks

• Enjoy panoramic views of Kang Yatse and other Himalayan giants

• Overnight camping in Nimaling

• Walking time 3-4 hours

Day 7, Nimaling (Ascend to KBC – 5000mtrs, night at 4800mtrs )

Nimaling to Kang Yatse Base Camp and back

• Trek from Nimaling to Kang Yatse Base Camp (approximately 6 km, 4-5 hours)

• Ascend steeply towards the base camp of Kang Yatse, crossing glacial moraines

• Enjoy lunch with sceneic views of and at Kang Yatse base camp set at 5000 meters

• Descend back to Nimaling for the night (3-4 hours)

• Walking time 7-9 hours

Day 8, Leh (Cross Kongmaru La Pass – 5300mtrs, night at Leh 3400mtrs )

• Descend from Nimaling to Chokdo (approximately 10 km, 4-5 hours)

• Drive back from Chokdo to Leh (approximately 3-4 hours)

• Celebrate the successful summit and conclude the trek

• Overnight stay in Leh

• Walking time 4-5 hours

• Overnight in Leh
